Thousands of spectators braved wet and windy conditions in Liverpool on Sunday 15 March to cheer on runners in the city’s biggest race event of the year.

The 33rd BTR Liverpool Half Marathon reached a major milestone, selling out all 15,000 places for the first time. Alongside it, the 10 Mile Road Race also sold out, with 500 runners taking part.

Despite the challenging weather, the atmosphere remained upbeat and inspiring, with runners and supporters lining the streets to create a memorable race day.

Both races began from a new start line at the waterfront Hill Dickinson Stadium, home of Everton Football Club. A total of 12,544 runners completed the courses, including 12,169 half marathon finishers and 375 in the 10-mile race.

This year’s updated route showcased more of Liverpool’s city centre, passing landmarks such as the Town Hall, Chinese Arch, and Liverpool Cathedral, before finishing at the iconic Pier Head. The grandstand finish and new event village, set against the backdrop of the Three Graces, proved a highlight for runners and spectators alike.

In a tightly contested half marathon, Jack Bromley took first place in 1:09:37, followed closely by David Meehan and James Wootton. In the women’s race, Lea Adamson claimed victory in 1:17:04, setting a new course record.

Isabelle Jones secured second place for the third consecutive year, recording her fastest time yet, while Abbie Smith finished third.

The 10-mile race was equally competitive, with Paul Edwards defending his title in 54:37. Carol Carter led the women’s race, finishing in 1:06:17.

More than 100 participants ran in support of the North West Air Ambulance, raising over £23,500 so far for the life-saving charity.

Two remarkable runners, Jamie Doolan and Stephen Symons, completed their 33rd consecutive Liverpool Half Marathon, having taken part in every race since it began in 1994.

Planning is already underway for 2027, with provisional dates set for March, while the next event in the calendar, the Mersey Tunnel 10K, is fast approaching with limited places remaining.
