VITAMIN B12 – WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?

3 Min Read

Vitamin B12 is a multi-system vitamin which means it has several important health benefits on the different systems of our body. It is a water soluble vitamin which means it cannot accumulate in the body, like fat
soluble vitamins can. It can be excreted in the urine if adequate levels are reached.

Vitamin B12 is normally obtained from our diet. People with specific diets of exclusion like vegans/ vegetarians can easily become deficient in vitamin B12. The absorption of vitamin B12 from our gut can vary from person to person. People who suffer from pernicious anemia are unable to adequately uptake vitamin B12 through their digestive system, therefore can supplement in the form of an intra muscular injection.

HOW IS IT GIVEN?

Quick and simple! A small injection into the arm or buttock, takes seconds!

IMPROVED ENERGY LEVELS BY ENHANCING RED BLOOD CELL FORMATION

Vitamin B12 is involved in red blood cell formation. Red blood cells contain haemogloblin which is needed to transport oxygen around your
body to reach the organs and tissues where it is needed. When vitamin B12 levels are too low, the production of red blood cells is altered, which can cause anemia, which results in tiredness and fatigue.

IMPROVED CONCENTRATION, MEMORY AND FOCUS

Studies have shown that Vitamin B12 deficiency has been associated with memory loss, especially in older adults. Therefore optimizing your vitamin B12 levels can help improve mental alertness, memory and cognitive function.

TO SUPPORT THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF A BABY IN PREGNANCY

Appropriate vitamin B12 levels are key to a healthy pregnancy. They’re important for the prevention of brain and spinal cord birth defects.

CAN HELP PREVENT HEART DISEASE

High levels of a protein called homocysteine circulating in the blood has been linked to increased risk of heart disease. Vitamin B12 has been shown to reduce the levels of homocysteine which, indirectly, reduces the risk of heart disease.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

Can help improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Improves bone health and prevents osteoporosis.
