Autumn Flight at London Carriage Works

6 Min Read

When I think of a perfect autumn evening, I picture great company, beautiful surroundings, and something delicious on my plate and in my glass.

The London Carriage Works on Hope Street delivered all that and more with their new Autumn Flight. This is an experience made for wine lovers who love to savour the season.

A Building Full of Character

I walked past here a while back and had to stop in my tracks. You know that feeling when somewhere instantly catches your eye and you just know it’s special? That spark of excitement and curiosity? That’s exactly how I felt.

The London Carriage Works oozes glamour and elegance while still feeling warm and welcoming. The location is stunning, nestled in the heart of the Georgian Quarter, and set in a beautifully restored 1860s Venetian-style building that’s full of light, art, and Liverpool charm.

From the striking glass sculptures to the atmospheric lighting and stylish furnishings, everything about it is seriously impressive.

Exceptional Service From Holly

We were greeted by Holly, who was an absolute star all evening. She guided us through each wine with such passion and confidence, sharing her knowledge in a way that felt relaxed and natural. You could tell she genuinely loved what she was doing. That kind of service makes a huge difference, she was attentive, friendly, and full of personality.

A Journey Through Four Italian Wines

Then came the main event… four incredible Italian wines, each perfectly paired with handcrafted autumnal canapés.

Villa Sandi Prosecco

The first glass, a Villa Sandi Prosecco, sparkled with fresh notes of pear and green apple. It was bright, crisp and the perfect way to start the evening.

It paired beautifully with a tomato bruschetta topped with Grana Padano, and the balance of the sweet tomato and salty cheese was perfection!

Guado al Tasso Vermentino

Next up was the Guado al Tasso Vermentino from Tuscany. This was light, fragrant and full of subtle hints of citrus blossom and tropical fruit. It was paired with a gorgeous pumpkin and ricotta tart drizzled with spiced honey. It was creamy, golden, and full of autumn comfort.

For those who need gluten-free options, like my friend, the team couldn’t have been more accommodating. Her food looked every bit as delicious as mine, and that attention to detail really stood out. It’s those small touches that make an experience feel personal.

Calafuria Rosé

The third wine was a Calafuria Rosé from Puglia. A gorgeous blush pink wine, bursting with wild strawberries and pomegranate. It had that lovely gentle sweetness that makes you pause and smile after every sip.

Poderi Colla Barolo

Finally, we finished with my favourite of the night – a Poderi Colla Barolo. Deep, full-bodied and full of warmth, with redcurrant, dried fig and spice.

It was paired with a beef ragout arancini that was crisp on the outside and rich and velvety inside. I’ve tried arancini all over Italy, from the top of Mount Etna to the streets of Venice, and these honestly held their own against the best of them.

Incredible Value

At £30 per person, this experience is incredible value. It’s elegant but relaxed, and thoughtfully put together from start to finish.

It’s perfect for catching up with friends, a romantic date night, or simply treating yourself.

You can even extend the indulgence with extra bread, cheese, or nibbles if you want to make a night of it.

We chose the Classic Wine Pairing, a journey that guided us through eight exquisite courses, each with its own story and perfectly matched glass of wine.

More Than Just a Tasting

What also struck me was the atmosphere, everyone was completely in the moment, with glasses raised and conversations flowing with the soft music in the background.

Sitting there, I felt the kind of contentment that’s hard to put into words. That beautiful reminder to slow down with a friend and to savour life… one sip at a time.

Wine tasting is always the first thing I book when I go on holiday, so it made me wonder – why not do the same right here in my own city… and I am so glad I did!

A Liverpool Gem

Liverpool has so many gems like this, and The London Carriage Works is one of the brightest.

The wines, the food, and the setting all came together to create an evening that was warm, stylish, and completely memorable.

So if you’re looking for an autumn treat that takes you on a wine journey through Italy without leaving the city, this is the one… I’m already planning my next visit!
