A Secret Worth Sharing: Restaurant 8 by Andrew Sheridan

6 Min Read

As the celebratory season approaches, finding a restaurant for indulgence, togetherness and a touch of sparkle to mark the occasion becomes part of the magic itself.

If you’re looking for a restaurant that feels exclusive and luxurious, the award-winning and world-renowned Restaurant 8 by Andrew Sheridan is definitely that special place.

Hidden in Plain Sight

Walking past on Cook Street, you might never notice 8, it’s almost hidden behind an impressive door, but once you step inside, the experience unfolds like a story.

You’re greeted and guided downstairs to an elegant, intimate world of black and gold sophistication, where flickering lights dance off glasses, awards and artwork, and quiet conversations take place alongside the soft music.

The first thing you see is the open bar and an open kitchen, which is a stage where the chefs perform their craft with calm precision.

Mesmerising Mastery

Watching each of them work is mesmerising. They move with grace and confidence, plating dishes that look like art, and every gesture is purposeful and serene.

It’s the kind of effortless mastery that leaves you in awe, especially if, like me, cooking can cause you a mild panic!

Soon, we were invited deeper into the restaurant, descending to the lower level where our seats awaited along the chef’s counter.

From here, you become part of the show. Every sizzle, every sprinkle, every final flourish unfolds right before your eyes.

A Culinary Journey Through Eight Courses

We began our culinary adventure with snacks which were delicate, surprising and beautifully presented, served with a glass of orange wine that glowed like amber in the low light.

Each bite was a mixture of flavour and texture, and was playful, refined and mysterious.

We chose the Classic Wine Pairing, a journey that guided us through eight exquisite courses, each with its own story and perfectly matched glass of wine.

The Tasting Menu Experience

Isle of Wight Tomato with barrel-aged feta and Kalamata olives burst with freshness and Mediterranean vibrance.

Tuna with salsa negra and avocado followed, rich and silky with a balance of umami and creaminess.

The Roscoff Onion with aged Gruyère, liquorice and almond played with sweetness and depth in a way that felt both surprising and comforting.

A warm Parker Roll with honey and roast garlic butter followed, and was the kind of bread and butter you remember long after it’s gone.

The Scottish Red Bream with mussel veloute, hazelnut and white chocolate was a revelation, delicate and unexpected.

This was followed by Mangalitsa Belly with dashi and smoked apple miso, a dish that captured the cosy richness of autumn.

The Orkney Scallop with coconut, peanut and papaya offered a burst of tropical brightness before the Creedy Carver Duck with black pudding and morello cherry, which arrived as a masterpiece of flavour, balancing savoury intensity with a hint of sweetness.

Divine Desserts

Dessert was an experience of its own. The S.T.P. (Sticky Toffee Pudding) with balsamic butterscotch and stilton was daring, decadent and unforgettable.

Then mandarin and yuzu with Jersey milk and EVOO refreshed the palate with zesty lightness.

After this we returned upstairs to enjoy coffee with the Valrhona 70% mole with corn and lime. This was a rich, indulgent finale.

Perfect Timing and Exceptional Service

Every course was perfectly timed and portioned so that you could savour every bite without feeling overwhelmed.

The progression of flavours, textures and aromas was so thoughtfully composed and the service was exceptional, warm, personal and intuitive. The team moved seamlessly, offering attentiveness without intrusion and always with genuine smiles.

Even the smallest details, from the stunning bowls and golden cutlery, to the fragrances and touches of care throughout, reflected true craftsmanship.

An Experience to Treasure

While we visited as friends, 8 by Andrew Sheridan is also a haven for couples. Several diners had travelled from across the UK to experience it, and it’s easy to see why. Once you’ve tasted this level of creativity and care, it’s hard to imagine dining any other way.

Each of Andrew Sheridan and Open Restaurant Group’s establishments has their own uniqueness, but they all share one unmistakable quality… excellence in flavour, atmosphere and heart.

Restaurant 8 isn’t just dinner. It’s a moment in time to remember, to celebrate and to savour.

So, if you’re searching for a special occasion restaurant, somewhere that feels both luxurious and meaningful, where every detail whispers care and creativity, 8 by Andrew Sheridan is a culinary experience you will treasure long after the final bite… and did I mention it’s been awarded three AA Rosettes and features in the Michelin Guide?
