History & Heritage

In the 1930s, The Dorchester became a haven for creative geniuses. The hotel was a residence of choice for political and military figures during the Second World War. It even played host to Queen Elizabeth II when she celebrated her engagement to Prince Philip in 1947.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton frequently stayed at the hotel. The hotel was purchased by the Sultan of Brunei in 1985 and now belongs to the Dorchester Collection.
