Voyagers Liverpool – Restaurant Review

3 Min Read

There are places you visit once, and then there are places that you have to return to time and time again — for me this is Voyagers Liverpool.

Set in the heart of the Ropewalks, within the beautiful Halyard Hotel, the award-winning Voyagers is a celebration of global flavours with a distinct Liverpool soul, and a great place for feel-good dining.

From the moment we arrived, the ambience set the tone. Live music playing, a warm welcoming atmosphere, soft lighting and an energy that instantly lifts your mood. It feels relaxed, yet elegant, and is beautifully decorated with stunning furniture and impressive tableware.

The service is exceptional and staff are attentive without ever feeling intrusive — they are friendly, extremely professional, and give you a sense that you are being genuinely looked after.

The Small Plates Menu

The standout for me was the Chargrilled Sea Bass with curried parsnip purée and pomegranate — absolutely divine, and without doubt the best sea bass I’ve had for a while. The sauce enhanced rather than masked the flavour of the fish.

The Salt and Pepper Chicken with watermelon was an unexpected pairing that worked brilliantly. The Confit Duck with braised lentils was rich and satisfying, with crisp skin and beautifully tender meat. The King Oyster Mushrooms were bold, unique and packed with flavour.

Dessert paid homage to Liverpool itself, with a Liverpool Tart — crumbly pastry and sweet inside — enjoyed alongside Prosecco and thoughtfully-made mocktails.

Afternoon Tea

The Afternoon Tea was exquisite — presented beautifully on a large cake stand overflowing with wonderful things. The Brie and Cranberry sandwich stole my heart, while the gammon, turkey and salmon were equally tasty on a variety of breads including focaccia and brioche.

The warm Pork and Cranberry Sausage Roll with cranberry, orange and port sauce was irresistible. Classic scones were soft, fresh and impossible to stop eating. The top tier of the cake stand featured Viennese Mince Pies, After Eight Macarons, Winter Berry Cheesecake and Chocolate Truffle Sprouts (wow!).

Voyagers is also notably accessible — spacious seating areas and fully accessible toilets mean everyone feels welcome and comfortable.

Sundays at Voyagers

Sunday Roasts at Voyagers are something else entirely. The portions were generous, the flavours spot on — from chicken and lamb to cauliflower cheese and all the trimmings. Every visit feels special here.
